The A6 motorway in Germany

The A6 motorway in Germany runs from east to west through the southern part of the country. The route begins at the French border near Saarbrücken and ends at the Czech border in Waidhaus, where it joins the D5 motorway towards Plzeň. The A6 serves as a continuous road link between France, south-western Germany and the Czech Republic.
The A6 motorway is approximately 477 km long. The route passes through, among other places, the areas around Mannheim, Heilbronn and Nuremberg, providing access to regions with well-developed industrial and logistics infrastructure. Heavy goods vehicles travelling along the entire length of the A6 are subject to the German LKW-Maut toll system, which applies to vehicles with a technically permissible maximum laden mass of more than 3.5 tonnes. Toll charges are calculated based on the distance travelled, the number of axles and the CO₂ emission class.
